A peaceful life is a curated one.

The calendar, the home, the people worth keeping close. I edit all three the way I’d edit a suitcase.

For years my calendar was a list of things I’d agreed to. The trips were the only part I’d actually chosen, which is why they had to carry so much. This autumn I did the obvious thing and started editing the rest of the year the same way.

Editing is not the same as minimalism. I still say yes to plenty. The difference is that every yes has a reason I can say out loud: it makes the house calmer, it keeps a friendship close, or it gives me back a morning.

“If it doesn’t earn its place in the suitcase, it doesn’t earn a place in the week.”

Here’s what actually matters

Three edits, in order. The calendar first, because it decides everything else. Then the home, because it’s where you recover. Then the people, because a small circle held closely is worth more than a wide one held loosely.

None of it is dramatic. It’s a Sunday reset, a guest room that’s always ready, a dinner that happens monthly whether or not anyone has news. Done consistently, it’s the most peaceful thing I know.
