Bee’s take

Most people see the Amalfi coast in August, from a traffic jam. Go in May or October, give it eight nights and two bases, and it becomes the most beautiful slow week in Europe.

Here’s what actually matters: a room with a terrace over the sea, a driver so you never touch the coast road, and a private boat for one long day on the water. Every trip is shaped around your dates, your people and your pace.

CoffeeOrder at the bar and drink it standing, like a local. It costs less, too.
ShoppingBuy ceramics and limoncello from family workshops, not the harbour stalls.
TippingService is often included. Round up, or leave a little extra when it was great.
The roadsThe coast road is narrow and slow. A driver or the ferry is calmer than renting a car.
Getting thereFly into Naples. I arrange a private transfer, or a boat when the season allows.
The places

Five places, each with its own pace.

You’ll stay in two and visit the rest. I choose which based on how you like to spend a day.

Questions I’m asked

Before you book.

When is the best time to visit the Amalfi coast?

May, late September and October. July and August are crowded, and the coast road slows to a crawl.

Where should I stay on the Amalfi coast?

Positano for the postcard, Ravello for quiet and gardens, Praiano for sunsets. I usually split a week between two of them.

Do I need a car on the Amalfi coast?

No. The road is narrow and slow. A private driver and the ferries are calmer and more enjoyable.

How do you get to the Amalfi coast?

Fly into Naples. I arrange a private transfer, or a boat when the season allows.

Is the Amalfi coast good for families?

Yes, with older children. There are a lot of steps, so I choose hotels with easy access.

Shall we make it yours?

Tell me your dates and who’s coming. I plan group trips, and luxury trips above $8k.
