Bee’s take

Most people do Marrakech in a rush and leave overwhelmed. Give it a riad in the medina and two nights in the mountains, and it becomes one of the most restful trips I plan.

Here’s what actually matters: a riad with a quiet courtyard, a guide for your first morning in the souks, and the Atlas when the city gets loud. Every trip is shaped around your dates, your people and your pace.

Local know-howCustoms worth knowing.
DressCover shoulders and knees in the medina. Light layers keep you cool and comfortable.
Mint teaAccept the first glass. It’s hospitality, and it’s rude to rush it.
ShoppingBargaining is expected in the souks. Keep it warm and unhurried, and only start if you want to buy.
TippingAround 10% in restaurants. Keep small notes for guides, drivers and riad staff.
PhotosAsk before photographing people, and expect a small tip if they say yes.
Getting thereFly into Marrakech Menara. I arrange a driver, since cars can’t reach most riads.
The places

Five places, each with its own pace.

You’ll stay in two and visit the rest. I choose which based on how you like to spend a day.

Questions I’m asked

Before you book.

When is the best time to visit Marrakech?

March to April and October to November. Summer is very hot, and winter evenings are cold, especially in the mountains.

Should I stay in a riad or a hotel?

A riad in the medina for atmosphere and calm behind closed doors. A garden hotel for space, a big pool and families. Many of my trips use both.

Is Marrakech overwhelming?

It can be on the first day. A good guide for your first morning in the medina changes everything.

What should I wear in Marrakech?

Cover shoulders and knees in the medina. Bring a warm layer for evenings in the Atlas.

Can you visit the Atlas Mountains in a day?

Yes, but two nights in the mountains is what makes this trip restful rather than busy.

Marrakech · 5 nights

Shall we make it yours?

Tell me your dates and who’s coming. I plan group trips, and luxury trips above $8k.
