Bee’s take

Most people book the Riviera Maya as a party. Choose the right adults-only retreat, stay put for five nights, and it becomes the most restorative trip you take all year.

Here’s what actually matters: one base, chosen carefully, a spa you’ll actually use, and just enough adventure to make the rest feel earned. Every trip is shaped around your dates, your people and your pace.

Local know-howCustoms worth knowing.
At the cenotesShower before you swim, and skip sunscreen and repellent. The water is fragile.
LanguageA few words of Spanish go a long way. “Buenos días” first, always.
ShoppingBuy from local makers in Playa del Carmen rather than resort shops.
TippingTips are appreciated even at all-inclusives. Keep small bills for staff who look after you.
In the sunThe sun is strong all year. Reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and shade at midday.
Getting thereFly into Cancún. I arrange a private transfer; most resorts are 30 to 60 minutes away.
The places

Five places, each with its own pace.

You’ll stay in one and visit the rest. I choose based on how you want to feel.

Questions I’m asked

Before you book.

When is the best time to visit the Riviera Maya?

December to April, when it is drier and the sea is calmest. Late summer and early autumn bring more rain and storms.

Is all-inclusive right for a reset?

Often, yes. For a restful trip, an adults-only resort with good food means you never have to plan a meal. I choose ones with a real spa.

How far are the resorts from Cancún airport?

Most are 30 to 60 minutes away. I arrange a private transfer.

Can I see the ruins and cenotes from a resort?

Yes. Tulum’s ruins and the cenotes are easy half-day trips. I book them early, before the crowds.

Is the Riviera Maya good for groups?

Yes. A private villa near Playa del Carmen gives a group space, privacy and its own pool.
